Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, January, 2018.
To the Eminent
President of Svenska Akademien
Box 2118 103 – 13
Stockholm – Sweden
Your Excellence:
“Nul
n’est prophète en son pays”
(Mme
DE SEVIGNÉ)
Relying
on the historical education and gentleness of Sweden people and, particularly
over the natural noble and generous spirit of your excellence.
I
beg your permission to offer to the Akademien Library one copy of my book “PENSAMENTOS,
etc.” (THOUGHTS, etc.), now published.
I
also have the pleasure to inform you that ten other books are waiting to be
printed.
After
that, I’ll be glad to offer them to your library as well.
Beforehand,
let me introduce myself:
My
name is Edson Almeida Valadares. I’m descendent of the earl and physician at
the Thomé de Souza expedition to the new lands, Jorge Valadares.
The
expedition arrived at the colony of Bahia in 1549, when Thomé de Souza founded
the city of Salvador, Brazil’s first capital.
It
is very curious that only at 94 years old, I publish my book of poetry, an age
when most of the poets are already dead.
I
believe that in a near future, I’ll be seeing the dawn of glory, especially if
the sun of the providence comes to light me up with its ardent beams.
I
thank you, therefore, for your generous consideration.
Last
but not least, allow me to present you with my highest votes of confidence and
greetings.
From
your loyal servant,
Edson
Almeida Valadares
(Poet
and writer).
